1st Grand Family
The Gerhard Family
We are honored to recognize the Gerhard Family as our First Grand Family of the Islip Irish Day Parade.
A deeply loved and respected Islip family, the Gerhards have faced unimaginable loss with grace, strength, and purpose.
Their beloved son, Jesse Gerhard, was an extraordinary young man who dreamed of serving others. He proudly served as a firefighter with the Islip Fire Department and the FDNY, stationed at “The Big House.”
Tragically, Jesse passed away in February 2022, just one day after battling a fire in the line of duty.
In the wake of their loss, the Gerhard family established the Jesse Gerhard Memorial Foundation—a powerful tribute that now helps others in need, carrying forward Jesse’s spirit of service and compassion.
They’ve turned heartbreak into hope. That is the true essence of Islip—a town built on love, resilience, and community.
We are proud beyond words to have the Gerhards lead our inaugural Islip Irish Day Parade.
They are pillars of our community.
Thank you, Gerhard Family.
